Journey: Session 2, Week 1

Welcome to the first week of the second session in the Journey studio!

We’re kicking things off with a brand-new quest: Biology Evolution. To start, we dove into the age-old question: “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” Each squad passionately debated their perspective, crafting insightful and beautifully put-together presentations. On Friday, we shared these presentations with LP, who helped us decide whose argument was the most compelling. We also got hands-on with microscopes for the very first time, examining details up close, and wrapped up the week with a thrilling egg tournament that included games like egg toss and egg race—loads of fun and a perfect way to build team spirit!

In Genre, our focus has been exploring different Biology heroes to find one who truly stands out. We spent time researching, discussing, and ultimately choosing a scientist who advanced biological science and challenged existing paradigms. It’s been fascinating to look at these trailblazers’ journeys and see how their breakthroughs transformed our understanding of life.

For civ, we learned about Mesopotamia and early civilizations. One of the questions we had a heated debate about was:

As the King of a Mesopotamian city, you must raise taxes to pay for a new irrigation system.  Whom will you raise taxes on?

  1. Poor farmers who are unlikely to leave the city

  2. Rich merchants who can afford to leave

  3. No citizens; I will use slaves' prison labor to build the irrigation system.

On Wednesday, we visited the nearby NVSA to use their court for PD. We played volleyball and basketball with the LP Falcons.

Our week wouldn’t have been complete without a Halloween celebration! Thursday was packed with festive activities: after a lively costume contest, we rotated through Halloween-themed stations where we carved apples, painted pumpkins, and decorated cookies. Then, we headed to Mollicone Park for outdoor fun, soaking up the fall weather. We gathered at the studio for a potluck lunch, enjoying each other’s treats, and closed out the day with a cozy movie session.

What a fantastic start to this session! See you in the next week’s newsletter.
