The second week of the fifth session is here! Here’s the details:

#1 - Our second cooking challenge! A chemistry scavenger hunt! For the second chemistry-cooking challenge for this session's quest, we did a chemistry scavenger hunt to find out what we would be cooking. The scavenger hunt consisted of 19 total chemistry questions, each one giving you a clue. These clues are mainly related to atoms. For example, one question was, “Choose three atomic bonds and explain what each of them is”. This was just one of the 19 questions we answered. Finally, the mystery dish we cooked was… Ice cream!

#2 - Prewriting; Restaurant story and ratings! After going to the restaurant, Journey learners had to write the story of their visit to the restaurant. They then wrote down every critical aspect and rated them on a scale of 1-10. This helped them note down everything and have something that they can always look at to remember precisely what they ate and how the restaurant was, instead of relying on their memories. They are almost ready to write their review!

#3 - Atomic discoveries? Bohr, Thomson, and Rutherford! Preparing for the chemistry-cooking challenge, Journey learners learned all about atoms, the central unit of matter in the universe. They researched three main models: Bohr, Thomson, and Rutherford, and learned about each one. They are on their way to being chemists!

#3 - No NVSA!? Starbucks and Chipotle instead! Unexpectedly, there was no NVSA this week (for those who don’t know, NVSA is a sports facility that Journey goes to once a week for physical activity and fun!) because it was too packed and we didn’t have any space to play. Instead, Michal decided to take us to Starbucks and Chipotle for a sweet and delicious treat. Learners had to pay with their own money, but everybody ended up with something that they wanted to eat!

Next week is going to be filled with even more cooking and chemistry; We have another cooking challenge and are preparing for starting our restaurant review! We can’t wait to tell you all about it!
