Welcome to week 3 of session 6! We are officially halfway through the session!
We started on Monday with Genre, where we learned about how to hook the audience and developed strategies to achieve this in our speeches. Then we moved on to the quest. For the first quest of the day, we rehearsed the mock trial with our team, which was interesting. We all acted out our characters with opening statements and rebuttals. For our second Quest, we drafted our closing arguments for the trial.
On Tuesday, we had Civ! Tuesday's Civ was about the Magna Carta. We learned about the Magna Carta and expressed our opinions on whether we agree with it or not. For Quest, we continued working on presenting evidence and explored the fascinating case of the Scopes Monkey Trial.
On Wednesday, we began with Genre and drafted the heroes' call to action. We researched how to make a last call to action, and then we proceeded to draft our own hero's call to action. For Quest today, we practiced for our roles and rehearsed the mock trial again, but this time with more evidence and accuracy.
On Thursday, we had our second Civ for the week. This was one of everyone's favorite Civs, about the Black Death. Everyone had a great deal of fun learning about the Black Death, and the discussion was really interesting. Then we moved on to Quest. At this point, we are starting to make our costumes for the mock trial. We learned how to make togas, and then we created a plan to obtain all the necessary props and costumes for the mock trial.
On Friday, we finally started drafting our hero's speech. We reviewed the components of the speech and then drafted the introduction, three main points, closing, and call to action. During the quest, we created our mock trial note card, which will be the same note card we use in the actual mock trial. We ensured that our key arguments and evidence were included.
That concludes week 3 of Session 6! See you again next week, after our end-of-the-year field trip to Medieval Times!
