Welcome to the fourth week of the third session’s weekly newsletter!
This week in Genre, we finished writing our biographies! We split up our biography writing into small chunks, starting with the Preparation (introduction and early life), followed by the Breakthrough (the hero’s big discovery), the Impact (the impact the discovery made), the Hero’s Story or Tragedy? (was the change in the hero’s life positive or negative?), and finishing off with the Moral (lessons learned from the hero’s life that readers can take into their own lives). It took a lot of research, writing, and dedication (and is still in process), but the results will be worth it and shared during the exhibition.
Civ this week was focused on Muhammad, the spread of Islamic religion, and the Medieval Age. We dove into heavy topics this week, such as corruption and murder. Here is one of the questions we answered: Lord Acton wrote: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Was Becket’s murder an inevitable conflict, an example that power corrupts, or a tragic mistake?
If you were Henry II, would you have done anything differently?
In this week’s Quest, we began to prepare for our science experiments that will be presented in the exhibition. From now until the exhibition, we design our posters, write our scripts, and perform a trial experiment, ensuring our experiments run smoothly. We also began the animal portion of this session’s biology Quest. During this time, we all chose a farm animal to research and started creating a slideshow presentation about the animal we chose. Our presentations will eventually be shared with Discovery and Sparks Falcons. We will visit TevaLand and spend a few hours with our chosen animal. We are all so excited about this, and can’t wait for our trip to TevaLand!
Last week, on Friday, AABC took a trip to Alpine Scout Camp. It was a frigid day, but we all had a lot of fun regardless. We could carve our spoons using a knife and hot coals, had hot tea to warm ourselves up, and ate ‘banana boats,’ bananas filled with melted chocolate. Everything was delicious, and it was worth the freezing temperatures.
Next week, we are flying to Guatemala! We can’t wait to come back and tell you all about it :)
