Lip Dub, Studio Contracts & Team Building (Session 1, Week 1)

Welcome to LaunchPad’s First Week!

This week was the perfect start to the year—one that began as if we had never left. While much of our work focused on planning for the year ahead, the energy in the studio was beautiful. Although the LaunchPad community looks a little different this year, our connections to one another feel just as strong as they always have.

To begin the year, we started with our traditional Acton Lip Dub. We spent much of this week sharing ideas and planning scenes for our video. It has already been a lot of work, but the process has been so enjoyable that the time seemed to fly by.

At the beginning of each year, we also create our studio’s governance system. This year, we decided it will take the form of four contracts. We discussed which contracts we felt would be critical to the continued success of our studio and then split into groups to draft our initial versions. Next week, we will present them to the rest of the studio, receive feedback, and hopefully end the week by signing our official LaunchPad contracts!

We also spent a good deal of time taking part in team-building exercises, although these challenges were different from the ones we have done in the past. Instead of working with our studiomates, we competed against one another. We took on a series of challenges to determine the quickest typist, best paper-airplane designer, and fastest sprinter. The winners of each challenge received one Falcon Buck.

Overall, this was an amazing start to what should be a wonderful year. I cannot wait to see what adventures and surprises this year will bring!
