Philosophy, Capitalism, Poetry & Alpine Adventure (Session 6, Week 3)

Hello, parents!

Welcome to this week's Journey Studio newsletter. Here's a look at what our learners explored throughout the week.

Genre

This week, learners added three powerful poems to their journals:

• If— by Rudyard Kipling

• Invictus by William Ernest Henley

• A Dialogue of Self and Soul by William Butler Yeats

These works encouraged learners to reflect on resilience, identity, and the choices we make throughout life.

Quest

In Quest, learners continued exploring questions surrounding life and death.

As part of this work, they developed thoughtful interview questions for an upcoming conversation with a 70-year-old guest, giving them an opportunity to learn from someone with decades of life experience.

On Wednesday and Thursday, learners stepped into the role of philosophers by discussing and attempting to define concepts such as "the soul" and "consciousness." These conversations challenged learners to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and consider multiple perspectives.

Civilization

This week in Civilization, learners researched and reflected on capitalism.

One of the central questions they explored was:

Has capitalism been a positive or negative force throughout history? Why?

The discussion sparked thoughtful debate, with learners presenting evidence and arguments from different viewpoints while respectfully considering perspectives that differed from their own.

Alpine Adventure & Juneteenth

On Tuesday, learners enjoyed a day at Alpine, where they spent time outdoors, connected with friends, and cooled off in the pool.

Today, our studio is closed in observance of Juneteenth. We hope everyone enjoys a meaningful and restful holiday.
