Team Building, Discussions & Creative Fun (Session 1, Week 1)

Hello Discovery Families!

It has been a fun and eventful first week in the Discovery Studio!

We have been holding our Discussion Circles together in the Big Room, exploring a variety of thought-provoking topics. Discussions included the risks and benefits of having leaders, what a person needs to understand and reach their potential, how to recognize and work within our comfort, challenge, and panic zones, and whether a tough-minded or warm-hearted approach is more effective in helping us accomplish our goals.

In addition to our discussions, we played plenty of games and took part in activities that helped us get to know one another and work as a team. We learned about each other and our preferences through “Get on the Boat,” tested our dexterity and teamwork with a cup-and-card stacking challenge, and explored creativity and our session theme through a boat-building activity. We also had time to learn new things and bond during our trip to the Zoo.

We chose our Lip Dub song! This year, it will be “Dia Dia” by Sia, so we are getting prepared to hear it A LOT! We also began studio maintenance and took on the responsibility of caring for our shared space.

The Discovery learners voted for their squad leaders, and next week we will begin Core Skills in our squads.

Looking Ahead

Next week, we will practice and record our Lip Dub and begin conversations about what kind of studio we want to build as we work together to create our Discovery contract. We will also explore our studio responsibilities through Jobs and committees.
