Greetings from the Journey Studio!
This week was both fun and challenging as learners continued their deep exploration of the American Revolution through writing, research, debate, and performance.
Genre: Personal Essays & America 250 Essay Competition
On Monday, learners reflected on meaningful personal experiences and selected one to develop into a 250-word essay. This exercise helped them strengthen their storytelling and writing skills.
By Wednesday, learners exchanged peer feedback, revised their essays, and submitted them to Michal for approval. They then reviewed all the essays they had written this session and selected their strongest piece to submit to the America 250: Fieldtrip Essay Competition.
Quest: Historical Role Play & Revolutionary Debate
Quest pushed learners to step outside their comfort zones as they prepared for their American Revolution play.
On Monday, learners memorized their lines and gathered props to accurately represent their historical characters.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, they rehearsed and received feedback from LaunchPad learners.
Later in the week, learners selected roles for the “No Taxation Without Representation” debate, where they will present arguments about whether to revolt against England.
The week concluded with a full rehearsal in front of the entire Journey Studio.
Through this process, learners strengthened their public speaking, historical understanding, and collaboration skills.
Civics: Exploring the Bill of Rights
In Civics, learners researched the United States Bill of Rights and discussed its modern relevance.
One of the key questions explored was: Which amendments in the Bill of Rights do you believe are most threatened today?
Learners shared thoughtful perspectives and practiced leading discussions, receiving peer feedback to improve their facilitation skills.
Half-Day Alpine Experience
On Friday, many learners participated in a half-day Alpine trip, enjoying outdoor adventure and physical activity. Others chose to remain at AABC to continue working on their projects and preparations.
We are proud of the learners’ dedication and growth as they continue to deepen their understanding of history, writing, and public speaking. We look forward to sharing more next week!
