Dear Sparks Tribe Families,
We had a wonderful fifth week of this session, filled with creativity, energy, and meaningful learning across our Sparks enrichment program.
Micro Monday: Biology Quest & Empathy in Learning
We began the week with a launch exploring what life might be like through the eyes of different animals. This activity encouraged empathy, imagination, and perspective-taking. Sparks then completed their landscape and animal dioramas as part of their Biology Quest, demonstrating creativity and scientific understanding.
Time Tuesday: Music, Resilience & Creativity
Learners watched Gene Kelly perform Singin’ in the Rain, sparking a discussion about resilience and finding joy during challenging moments. In the afternoon, Sparks continued their Music Quest, creating their own drums and experimenting with rhythm and sound.
Macro Wednesday: Heroes, Villains & Core Skills
Sparks explored the qualities of heroes and villains and discussed what makes a hero’s journey meaningful. This helped deepen their understanding of character, empathy, and storytelling. The afternoon focused on Core Skills and completing their Biology Quest projects.
Read-Aloud Thursday: Coping Skills & Music Video Preparation
Learners listened to We Will Rock Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins and discussed strategies for coping with adversity and managing emotions. Sparks also voted on a song and began preparing for an upcoming music video connected to their instrument-building quest. The day continued with Core work and creative crafts.
Fitness Friday: Strength, Outdoor Play & Community
Sparks learned about chest muscles and designed their own exercises to strengthen them, promoting physical awareness and independence. Saiim shared that he will be leaving at the end of the session, which was an emotional moment for the learners.
We ended the week with a special outdoor trip to Memorial Field Park, where Sparks enjoyed the snow, fresh air, s’mores, and hot chocolate—a perfect way to celebrate their hard work and community spirit.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to another exciting week of learning!
