Core Skills, Team Building, Creativity & Outdoor Learning (Session 1, Week 4)

Dear Sparks Families,
Welcome to our fourth week of school! The Sparks had a busy and exciting week filled with Core Skills, team-building activities, creative projects, Studio Committee voting, and plenty of outdoor time.
Monday
The Sparks began the week with a conversation about belonging while being different. They listened to a read-aloud of The Crocodile That Didn’t Like Water, which helped them reflect on the topic.
They then continued working on their Core Skills before watching and voting on Lip Dub videos from Acton Academies in other zones. The day ended with plenty of outdoor free time in the woods and on the playground.
Tuesday
Tuesday began with a discussion about the four seasons. The Sparks considered whether changing weather is important and shared their thoughts about their favorite times of year.
They then jumped into their Core Skills, participated in a letter-writing activity during Writers’ Workshop, and enjoyed Studio and outdoor free time.
Wednesday
Wednesday was a busy morning of House Cup activities! The learners began with their Core Skills and then participated in team-building games with their Houses.
The beautiful weather gave everyone plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors and explore the new field. Later, the Sparks discussed and voted on Studio Committees, such as the Safety Committee and Trash Committee, with their tribe.
Thursday
Thursday began with a launch about Pokémon cards and the hypothetical question, “What would you do if...?”
After working on their Core Skills, the Sparks enjoyed more outdoor free time in the woods and on the playground. During Writers’ Workshop, they drew and wrote about an imaginary creature.
Friday
To finish the week, the Sparks participated in a launch about listening to others. They enjoyed more time outdoors in the beautiful weather and finished up their weekly goals in Core Skills.
It was another full and fun week of learning, teamwork, creativity, and time outdoors!
Have a wonderful weekend!
