Core Skills, Team Building & Outdoor Learning (Session 1, Week 3)

Dear Sparks Families,
Welcome to our third week of school! The Sparks enjoyed a full and busy week filled with Core Skills, team building activities, birthday celebrations, and plenty of outdoor free time.
Monday
The Sparks began the week with a read-aloud of The Duckling Gets a Cookie? They discussed whether the way we use our words can impact what we receive from others.
Afterwards, they continued working on their Core Skills before heading outside for plenty of free time in the woods and on the playground.
Tuesday
Tuesday began with another read-aloud, this time The Curious Garden. The learners discussed what it means to be curious and what it means to be willing to try something new.
They then jumped into their Core Skills before taking on a fun team building challenge: building towers using marshmallows and spaghetti!
The day ended with Studio time and outdoor free play.
Wednesday
Wednesday began with a fun morning of House Cup! The learners started with their Core Skills and then joined their Houses for a team building activity.
They also continued working together to discuss and vote on additional promises they would like to add to their contract.
And, of course, there was plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors and the new playground!
Thursday
On Thursday, the Sparks began with a launch about growth mindset and the word “yet.” They discussed skills they have not learned yet and thought about how practice and persistence can help them grow.
After working on their Core Skills, the learners enjoyed more outdoor free time in the woods and on the playground.
They also had fun with team building games, including Dr. Pepper, limbo, and reverse charades.
Friday
To end the week, the Sparks enjoyed a full day in Alpine. They had plenty of time for free play and participated in team building activities with their House Cups.
It was a wonderful week of learning, growing, and building connections!
Have a wonderful weekend!
