Hello Parents,

We are now officially in the second half of the session! This week, learners had to “lock in” and complete an entire week’s worth of challenges in only three days. Fortunately, the challenges were both engaging and enjoyable, making for a productive and exciting week.

Genre

In Genre, learners finalized their debates by developing rebuttals, strengthening closing statements, and refining their arguments through critiques and revisions. They worked hard to prepare for meaningful and well-structured debates that they will showcase during Exhibition.

Quest

For Quest, learners continued participating in the stock market game, challenging themselves to better understand investing and trading strategies in order to stay competitive. They also explored career pathways by considering which colleges would best prepare them for jobs assigned by the LaunchPad learners, along with the salaries connected to those careers. In addition, learners examined the pros and cons of insurance and discussed whether they would choose to purchase different types of coverage in real life.

Civ

This week in Civics, learners explored how oil transformed the Middle East and debated whether the discovery of oil ultimately benefited the region. They also discussed why some countries with limited oil resources appear wealthier than countries with abundant oil reserves. The conversations were thoughtful, engaging, and full of insightful perspectives.

Apprenticeship

During Apprenticeship, learners revised their professional emails based on peer feedback before sending them out. They then prepared for phone calls with potential apprenticeship mentors by brainstorming discussion topics, receiving critiques, and revising their talking points. By the end of the week, learners had already begun drafting and refining a second round of professional communication.

Alpine Trip

This week also included the long-awaited Alpine Trip! Learners joined fellow Actons from across the Northwest for a collaborative outdoor adventure filled with teamwork, games, and new friendships. Throughout the trip, learners participated in activities such as Hide & Seek, Tag, Capture the Flag, hiking, and many other physically active challenges. The trip provided opportunities to connect with new people, build relationships, and stay active outdoors. It was such a memorable experience that many learners were already talking about wanting to return in the future!
