Session 1, Weeks 1 and 2

On September 16th, 2019, the Acton Academy of Bergen county opened its doors to thirteen eager heroes. Each hero entered the studio not quite knowing what to

expect. The first week was full of multiple team building activities that included, the Human Knot, a Hula Hoop Lift, and choreographing and filming a Lip Dub. The heroes helped each other learn the lyrics to High Hopes by Panic at the Disco and work out moves for each of their sections.

As the first week progressed the heroes began to bond over common interests such as soccer, Pokemon, and books. The heroes built and started painting their own working desks and were introduced to D.E.A.R time where they have quiet time to sit and read a book of their choosing. They also divided up tasks for Studio Maintenance in order to keep their studio clean and in order.

During the second week, the heroes embarked upon their first quest, Survivor. In

pairs they learned about foraging and edible insects, completed their own DIY

mousetrap, learned and discussed survival skills. Throughout the week, the heroes took part in Yoga, Meditation and began working in Core Skills. Introduction to writer’s workshop was made when the heroes started writing stories and adventures for their own chosen character. They also engaged in Board Game time on Fridays, testing their strategy and patience in games such as Battleship, Risk, Apples to Apples, and Uno. As the first session continues the Heroes will continue to finalize their contract, explore more survival skills, and continue their Hero’s Journey.
