Hello Discovery Families,
What a week it has been for the Discovery Falcons! From starting their first quest of the year, to introducing and applying for jobs, this week was nothing short of exciting for the learners.
The Community Garden Quest kicked off this week! The Falcons were broken up into groups and tasked with experimenting with different methods of scarification on a pinto bean to see which method would speed up the germination process. The learners conducted this experiment on Monday and many were excited to observe that their seeds had sprouted when they checked up on them again on Thursday! After this experiment they moved on to discover more about capillaries and the movement of water through plants. Each group took a celery stalk and placed it in a cup filled with food dye and water. Next time they have quest they’ll be able to observe the changes in their celery stalks!
The Falcons continued their self exploration while working on their hero boards this week. They’ve moved on from the brainstorming process and are writing their final pieces that will be placed on their board. Those that have already finished have chosen their frame and hung their Hero Board in the hall.
Learners had an opportunity to choose a studio job this week! Some jobs up for grabs were morning greeter, outside cleaner, time keeper, supply chiefs, and newsletter writer. This will be the last time the Discovery newsletter is written by a guide!
The process of creating the contract continued this week with the provisional contract. The Falcons were able to give practice warnings based on the items in this contract to see what they feel is important and needs stay in the contract in addition to getting a feel for giving and receiving a warning.
Discovery Studio continued with their learner led presentations for their passports this week and had another fun filled PE at Mollicone Park!
We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
Kind Regards,
Ashley and Marie
