Hello parents of the Journey Studio! This is the first week of Session 2. For Session 2, our Genre is Flash Science Fiction, and our Quest is Space X Chemistry and Rockets. This week we had so much fun. Are you ready to hear about all we did?
Quest:
This Session, our Quest is Space X Chemistry and Rockets. This week, we learned about what chemical reactions make the rocket go up, and then we created and tested our rockets. Most of the rockets did not launch, and the groups worked on improving them before the competition on Monday.
Genre:
This Session, our Genre is Flash Science Fiction. On Monday, we researched the six elements of science fiction, wrote what we learned, read two stories about science fiction, and then talked with our squad about what we learned. On Wednesday, we did the same thing to learn as much as possible. On Thursday, we brainstormed ideas for our story.
Civ:
This week, for Civ., we learned about Tulip Mania, the Dutch East India Corporation, and World Trade. A question from Tulip Mania was, “Bitcoin is a new form of money that rose from $0.10/coin in July 2010 to over $ 2,400/coin in 2017.Assume your grandfather had given you ten bitcoins in 2010:
Would you sell them in 2017 for $24,000 and pay up to $9000 in taxes, or
Defer the taxes and hold the bitcoins, expecting them to continue to rise?”
To conclude, overall, it’s safe to say that this week was super fun and the whole Studio really enjoyed it. Come back next week to hear about how the rocket completion went, and what we did in Genre and Civ.
