Greetings Discovery Families,

It’s hard to believe it is already the end of week two! The Discovery learners have accomplished much this week including, starting their hero boards, finishing their lip dub, and beginning to write their contract.

Every year each learner creates a hero board. This project showcases their hero’s journey so far. They have a selection of prompts to choose from that relate to the hero's journey. Once they finish the writing they can choose to add a photo of themselves, a list of their favorite things or other decorations and drawings. Learners are hard at work and some have already started to receive feedback from another learner and assemble their hero board.

Possibly the most important thing the learners will do this session is write their studio contract. This contract is the set of promises the learners create and promise to uphold. Once the contract is finished they will be able to hold each other accountable to the promises they made. Right now the contract is in its draft stage and learners are discussing the importance of having promises including “be kind and respectful to one another,” “don’t be loud or yell in the studio unless it’s an emergency,” and many many others. Hopefully the learners will finish the contract next week and will be able to sign it at our first Alpine day next Friday.

Discovery finished their lip dub! They worked all week to get just the right take. It took a lot of coordinating from the directors, filmmakers, and supporting cast. They ran into a few hiccups and worked through demonstrating their perseverance as a community. Next week they will begin watching lip dubs from other Acton’s in our region and vote for the one they think is best.

In other studio business Discovery began exploring the committees and jobs that will be available to them this session. Some learners will be matched up with newer ones to serve as mentors. Once they have their committees they will be able to start their jobs and earning Falcon Bucks for their hard work in helping the studio function

It’s shaping up to be an eventful session in Discovery and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the session brings us!
