Hello Parents, Learners, and Family Members,
This week was full of creativity, collaboration, and exciting progress across Writer’s Workshop, Quest, Art, and Civics.
Writer’s Workshop: Field Trip Pitch Presentations
Learners continued developing their “Pitch a Field Trip” persuasive speeches. This week, they focused on giving and receiving meaningful feedback. Learners presented their pitches to peers, who evaluated them using structured feedback forms.
On Friday, learners gathered to listen to the final presentations and voted using a Google Form to select their top three favorites. The six highest-voted pitches will be presented at next week’s Exhibition, where families will have the opportunity to vote for the winning field trip proposal. We are excited to share their hard work with you!
Quest: Game Design Project Comes to Life
In our Game Design Quest, learners began building their final games using the materials they carefully selected and ordered. The creativity has been incredible!
Learners are creating a wide variety of games, including:
Traditional board games
Dart and skill-based games
Story-based games inspired by popular movie franchises
Learners also began playtesting their games and gathering feedback to improve gameplay, rules, and design.
Art: Creative Shrinky Dinks
In Art this week, learners made shrinky dinks—turning their original drawings into keychains using special shrink paper. This hands-on activity allowed learners to express their creativity while exploring design and transformation.
Civics: The Origins of Lacrosse
In Civics, learners explored the Oneida story of the first lacrosse game and learned about the origins of lacrosse, which was invented by Native American tribes. Many traditions describe the first game as being played between two-legged and four-legged animals.
Learners also watched a video and discussed the cultural and historical significance of lacrosse in Native American communities.
We look forward to sharing learners’ projects and presentations with you at next week’s Exhibition!
See you next week!
