Heroes, Town Hall, and Carnival Prep (Session 1, Week 5)

Hello, Discovery parents!
We had another busy week in Discovery, filled with reading, writing, teamwork, and preparations for our upcoming Carnival. Here’s a look at what we did each day!
Monday: DEAR and Carnival Quest
On Monday, we had DEAR (Drop Everything and Read). Everyone continued reading their badge books, and it was a very focused session, with learners reading and working quietly.
Later in the day, we had Carnival Quest! Everyone continued working on their carnival projects, whether making signs, creating props and decorations, or practicing what they will do during the carnival.
Tuesday: Math Lab, Art, and Heroes
Tuesday started with our regular morning activities. North had Math Lab, while South had Art.
During Writers’ Workshop, we continued exploring the themes of monsters and heroes. This week, we focused on heroes and wrote about challenges we have faced and how we overcame them.
We also played a fun game about being a mentor or an ally on someone else’s journey. It was a great opportunity to think about how we can support others!
Wednesday: House Cup, Town Hall, and Carnival Quest
Wednesday brought House Cup and our first Town Hall of the session! We voted on the topic for our Town Hall, and the winning suggestion was Ghosting.
What is ghosting? A couple of years ago, we had an activity where learners could leave something in another person’s cubby. When that person opened their cubby, they would discover the surprise someone had left for them!
In the afternoon, we returned to Carnival Quest and continued preparing for the big event.
Thursday: Art, Math Lab, and Hero Boards
Thursday was similar to Tuesday, with North and South switching between Art and Math Lab so each studio could participate in the activity they hadn't done the previous time.
We also had another Writers’ Workshop. Everyone continued working on the writing for their Hero Boards, reflecting on challenges and what it takes to overcome them.
Friday: Core Skills, Committees, and Carnival Painting
On Friday, we focused on Core Skills and had the chance to see whether we were working at Level 1, 2, or 3. We also spent time reflecting on our Core Skills progress.
Afterward, we enjoyed some board game time. Learners also worked on their studio committees. I’m working on the newsletter, while others are taking care of projects such as the fish tank and the Discovery Lettuce Grow.
In the afternoon, it was time for Carnival Quest again—and this time, we got to paint!
To wrap up the day, we had Circle and Character Callouts. After studio maintenance, we looked forward to our House Cup closing group and watching all the studios’ Lip Dubs!
It was a full week of creativity, reflection, teamwork, and Carnival preparations. We can’t wait to see how everything comes together!
Have a wonderful weekend!
