Welcome to the Week 4 LaunchPad Newsletter!

This week was packed with engaging challenges, thoughtful discussions, and an unforgettable camping trip where LaunchPad and Journey learners spent two days connecting with learners from other Actons.

Quest

This week in Quest, learners explored investing strategies and financial decision-making. On Monday, they identified their personal investing archetypes by reflecting on goals such as long-term versus short-term gains and their tolerance for risk. Throughout the week, learners researched physical coins and cryptocurrency investments, discussing how different asset types can contribute to a diversified portfolio. These challenges encouraged learners to think critically about financial planning and investment strategy.

Genre

In Genre, learners reflected on the financial lessons they learned from interviewing their parents earlier in the session. They then began drafting their “Money Manifestos,” personal essays that outline their beliefs about money, investment philosophies, and important lessons they believe can help others make wise financial decisions. Learners worked hard to connect personal experiences with practical financial insights.

Civ

During Civics, learners researched countries that experienced either tyrannical rule or mob rule. They engaged in thoughtful discussions about which type of government would be more difficult to live under and why. Learners made strong arguments from multiple perspectives, while ultimately agreeing that neither form of government would be desirable. The conversation encouraged critical thinking, historical analysis, and respectful debate.

Alpine Camp Trip

On Thursday and Friday, learners participated in an exciting camping trip at Alpine Scout Camp. This experience was especially meaningful because LaunchPad and Journey Studios were joined by learners from several other Acton schools. Throughout the trip, learners hiked, played collaborative games, built new friendships, and strengthened their teamwork and problem-solving skills while interacting with peers they had never met before. The combination of outdoor adventure, collaboration, and community-building made this trip a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.
