Welcome to the last week of the first session’s Launchpad newsletter!
Since this is the last week of the session, we spent a lot of time making sure our Genre challenges were well-edited and our Quest was thoroughly reflected on. In Genre, we made some last edits to our blog posts to ensure they were ready for greenlighting (the final approval stage). It took a lot of hard work and effort to make sure our blog posts met the excellence standards, but after a few hours, we accomplished this task. In Quest, we played poker for the last time, and the winner earned 10 Falcon Bucks! The incentive made us work to play even harder, and after a good game, one of us received their well-deserved Falcon Bucks (it wasn’t me).
We also spent much time this week working on our NGA (Next Great Adventure - aka future life path) boards. Our posters consisted of the NGA we want to pursue after Launchpad, possible interview candidates, questions we would ask in an industry survey, and much more. We all worked very hard on these boards and are very proud of the work we’ve done.
To finish up Civ this session, we had our final Civ discussions. We focused on life in the Ancient Roman Empire and architecture, both Roman and American. We learned about the quality of life in Ancient times and discussed how social class played a part in everyday life. We discussed many interesting topics and even answered some Socratic questions we’d created ourselves.
Additionally, we each created our badge plans this week, drafting a plan we will follow throughout our remaining years in Launchpad. This took a long time, but the result was something to be proud of. Now that we’re done with the hard part, we can move on to the easier part: completing the 100+ badges we set on our plans.
Last week, on Friday, all of AABC went to Alpine Scout Camp! We’ve done this once before, and it was so much fun. Last week was no different. We spent the morning on a challenging 2 ½ hour hike, but in the end, it was worth it for the fantastic view. We also held the House Cup in the park, where we played various games, such as red-light, green-light, statues,
and a teepee-building competition. We spent the rest of the afternoon with Journey, playing games and roasting potatoes in a fire we’d built ourselves.
Overall, this was a fantastic end to a wonderful first session in the new Launchpad studio. Thanks for reading!
