Welcome to the 5th session’s second newsletter!

This week for Genre, we started our work as short story writers. We began the week on Monday by absorbing advice from many famous writers, which was shared in videos, blogs, or articles. On Tuesday, we started the first step of our story: determining the topic we would write about. We drafted ten different topics that interested us enough to write a story about.

On Thursday, we followed up on one of the topics we had chosen and plotted out a storyline for it. We each made at least the basic outline of the story, a beginning and an end, so we could be ready to write.

During Civ on Wednesday, we learned about new thinkers in the 18th and 19th centuries. Thinkers like John Stuart Mill, who was known for Utilitarianism, the belief that the best thing is whatever leads to the most happiness for the most people.

On Thursday, we researched the possibility of population growth and the risks and rewards that might come of it.

For the quest, we continued our Spanish learning journey through Rocket Language, spending approximately an hour and a half on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to learn more basic concepts, such as telling the time, nouns, adjectives, and verbs.

Thursday, we were supposed to practice the Spanish we learned from Rocket Language by talking to some Spanish speakers who were just across the hall, Saiim and Perla. But, something essential took up this time instead… Getting ready for the NGA talk!

We spent most of Thursday preparing for the talk and setting up downstairs. We finalized the scripts and speeches, set up the chairs, and practiced repeatedly. And by the time we were ready, people had already started spilling into the basement.

We were nervous but pushed through and gave our speeches. We all did very well, and thanks to anyone who was there for coming and supporting us!

Thank you for reading. I hope to see you next week!
