Welcome to the 5th session’s fourth newsletter!
This week, we started revisions for our short stories. We recorded ourselves reading the stories out loud and changed anything that sounded weird or off in any way. After this, we gave each other specific warm and cool feedback on things that either sounded good or could be changed to sound better.
For Civ, we researched economic systems like Marxism, Communism, and Socialism. We read about how each different system was different and what brought them about.
During Quest, we continued working on our Spanish through Rocket Language, but we also had some fun side projects on top of that.
On Monday, we each tried our best to take an English song and translate it to Spanish. Wednesday, we created a story in Spanish. Each sentence started with the next letter of the alphabet. For example, the first sentence started with “A” and the following started with “B”. Both of these were a bit challenging, but we worked hard to use tools like google translate as least as possible.
Tuesday, we made our plans for the exhibition. We set smart goals for what we wanted to complete by the end of the session and how we would display how much Spanish we learned.
Thursday and Friday we had our overnight Alpine trip! Other than us, there were three other Actons; Morristown, Essex, and Kennebunkport.
After settling into our cabins, we played a large game of capture the flag before eating lunch. We played more games like kickball and manhunt after eating and ended the day with dinner and roasting marshmallows. The next morning, a few learners and guides woke up early to go on a hike to see the sunrise from a great view point, but the fog was too thick and covered the entire sunrise. We then had breakfast and played Gaga ball and volleyball. Finally, around 12:00, we cleaned up our cabins and packed everything up so we would be ready to leave when the time came.
It was very exciting and filled with fun! We all met so many people and made many new friends!
Thank you for reading! Hope to see you again for next week’s newsletter!
