Money, Community, Kindness & Outdoor Adventures (Session 5, Week 1)

Greetings from Sparks Kingdom!

We kicked off the week with a read-aloud of a Dr. Seuss book about the invention of money. The Sparks explored whether money is more useful than traditional bartering systems and shared their thoughts on using money as a tool in everyday life. They then transitioned into Core work, enjoyed sunny outdoor play in the woods, celebrated a learner’s birthday, and held Sparks Elections for new “Studio Committees” (including Safety Committee, Bank Teller, and Studio Maintenance).

On Tuesday, the day began with a meaningful discussion about community. The Sparks reflected on how people rely on one another to live well and support each other. After Core work and more outdoor play, they brainstormed ideas for the upcoming Children’s Business Fair, sparking creativity and entrepreneurial thinking.

Wednesday continued the focus on money and financial literacy. The Sparks discussed how money makes them feel and how they use it in their lives. During Quest, they learned the value of different coins and bills and challenged themselves to create the same total using multiple combinations—building strong math and problem-solving skills.

Thursday’s launch centered on kindness and good sportsmanship. The Sparks reflected on winning, losing, and how to show kindness in all situations. Later, they enjoyed a field trip to Closter Farm, where they learned about organic farming, vegetables, and raising chickens, along with hands-on harvesting experiences. Back in the studio, they continued Core work and prepared for the Children’s Business Fair by creating product price lists.

On Friday, the Sparks participated in Fitness Friday, completing an Inside Out-themed workout and discussing the importance of exercise in daily life. They then continued Core work, outdoor play, and Quest, where they explored how money can be used for good and make a positive impact.

We wish you a wonderful weekend!
