Hello parents, learners, family members, and friends,

This week was exciting and full of new beginnings—it was the first week of Session 3! We started a brand-new Quest, a new Writer’s Workshop, and many other activities across the studio.

Let’s start with Writer’s Workshop.

This session, our focus is Persuasive Writing. On the first day, we worked on writing and presenting debates. We chose partners and teamed up with another group to prepare a debate. One team represented the proposition (for the idea), and the other represented the opposition (against the idea). Marie gave each group a card that told us what topic we would debate.

We then wrote reasons explaining why we were either for or against the idea. At the end of Writer’s Workshop, we presented our debates, and the rest of the studio voted on which group was the most convincing.

On the second day, we wrote persuasive letters. We had to convince someone to change something or give us something we wanted. We could write to our parents, our school, or anyone else we chose, as long as we supported our reasoning clearly. That’s what we worked on this week in Writer’s Workshop.

Now let’s move on to Quest!

Our new Quest is Game Design Quest. On the first day, we played different types of games and gave them warm and cool feedback. After that, we chose our three favorite games.

On the second day of Quest, we completed a fun challenge using a paper plate. We divided it into four sections labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4. Then we dropped M&M’s onto the plate to see how often they landed in each section. After observing the results, we predicted a number and dropped the M&M again. If it landed on our predicted number, we got to keep the M&M’s—if not, we had to give them up! This activity helped us learn about probability and game mechanics.

In addition to Writer’s Workshop and Quest, we also had Civics, Art, Physical Development, and of course, time to enjoy the snow pile!

Thank you for reading, and have a great day!
