Welcome to the Third Newsletter of Session Four!

This week, learners in the LaunchPad Studio dove deeper into physics, advanced their allegory writing, and engaged in meaningful discussions about global poverty and income inequality.

Quest (Physics: Hooke’s Law & Bungee Challenge)

In Quest, learners began the week by researching Hooke’s Law and exploring the relationship between force and elasticity (F=kx).

As the week progressed, they investigated different types of bungees—static, precision, and dynamic—along with the concept of elastic potential energy.

On Friday, learners put their knowledge into action during a Bungee Competition. Working in teams, they designed systems using a single egg to simulate a bungee jump, aiming to prevent it from cracking. This hands-on challenge brought together creativity, teamwork, and scientific understanding.

Genre (Allegory Writing)

In Genre, learners completed the key components of their allegories and began assembling their first full drafts. From the excerpts shared, it’s clear that learners have invested significant thought and creativity into their work. We’re excited to see how these allegories develop in the coming weeks.

Civ (Global Poverty & Income Inequality)

In Civ, learners explored global poverty and income inequality, engaging in thoughtful research and reflection.

One particularly engaging discussion centered on whether the wealthiest Americans should be taxed at higher rates to support programs aimed at helping the poorest populations. This conversation encouraged learners to consider multiple perspectives, analyze real-world challenges, and articulate their views respectfully.

Although it was a busy week, it was also one of the most rewarding of the session so far. It has been exciting to watch learners deepen their understanding of scientific principles while also gaining insight into themselves through their writing.

We wish you a wonderful weekend!
