Physics Quest, TED Talk Projects, and French Revolution Research (Session 4, Week 1)

Greetings from the Journey Studio.
This is the first Journey Newsletter of Session 4. Unfortunately, due to the snowstorm, the learners did not have school on Monday. Starting this session, the learners will be researching and experimenting with physics for Quest, creating their own TED Talks for Genre, and they will start to research the French Revolution for Civ.
Genre: This Session, learners will be creating their own TED Talks for Genre. The learners began by researching TED Talks, watching at least three, and then reflecting upon them. On Thursday, they considered what makes for a good presentation, and on Friday they chose the topics of their TED Talks.
Quest: This week, for Quest, the learners had to make their own cars using materials from the Studio. On Wednesday, they learned about energy, force, and work, and then spoke with LaunchPad Learners about what they had learned. On Thursday, they researched Newton’s 3 Laws, along with acceleration and velocity, and then presented their findings to both the LaunchPad and Discovery Studios. On Friday, using what they had learned over the week, they tried to make the cars they’d built on Monday travel as far as possible.
Civ: This week, for Civ., the learners began to research the French Revolution, and considered questions like: Was Napoleon a hero or a tyrant (look for the definition of the word if needed)? Why? The majority of the learners thought that Napoleon was a tyrant because of his return to slavery, getting rid of free speech, and many other bad things.
Beat the champ, Winner. This week, we started a new round of our beat the champ game. Beat the Champ is a game where the learner who wins the most games earns a crown and gives a speech.
