Welcome to Launchpad’s fourth week!

Genre: Are Other People’s Opinions Always Bad?

This week in Genre, we broadened the scope of our interviews. While last week focused on learning how we view ourselves, this week was all about understanding how other people view us.

We rated each other on the traits included in the Big Five Personality Test, and later reflected on how accurate we thought our scores were. This gave us an opportunity to compare our own perceptions with the perspectives of our peers.

Quest: Reflections Upon Reflections

This week, Quest included a wide variety of activities. From estimating our potential salaries to defining our ideal workplace culture, we spent time thinking about our futures and what we want our working lives to look like.

We also reflected on our lives as they are now and considered what we would like them to look like in the future.

AI was incorporated into almost every challenge, allowing us to develop two important skills at the same time: reflective thinking and effective AI use.

Civ: What Makes Great Civilizations So Great?

For Civ, we explored the history of ancient Mesopotamia and the great Nile River. We discussed which ancient lifestyle we would prefer to experience, the long-term impact that past cultures have had on our world, and the role that people in positions of power play in shaping their civilizations.

One of the questions we were challenged to consider was:

Would you like to see the U.S. President have their power increased at the expense of the other two branches of government so he or she can “get more done,” or is this a dangerous concentration of power? Why or why not?

This question encouraged us to think about leadership, government, and the balance of power—and how decisions made by those in power can shape an entire society.

Looking Back on the Week

This week was packed with new challenges and activities, giving us plenty of opportunities to think more deeply about ourselves, our peers, our futures, and the world around us.
