This week has been filled with motivation, collaboration, and self-discovery for our Sparks!
Mindset Monday was all about inspiration! We watched American Olympic runner Noah Lyles break the world record in the 100-meter race. Afterward, Sparks discussed what it takes to be a champion and shared their own dreams and aspirations. This shift in focus to "what do I want to do?" spilled right into core as they all went to plan out their core boards. And to top it off, at closing circle, the entire school gathered to hear the results of the Acton Lip Dub for Zone 6. And our Sparks Tribe won first place for the third year in a row! We will celebrate this incredible achievement on the final day of this session.
Team Building Tuesday began with a launch about governments and their importance. After a thorough discussion, Sparks voted for the two learners who will represent them in the school council.
Worldwide Wednesday took us to Kenya, where we watched a video about the Maasai people and their tribal Olympics. Sparks discussed the importance of the house cup and how it mirrors the Maasai culture of challenging and pushing one another. In the afternoon, Sparks broke into groups and worked on creating their own battle cries. Each group put in tremendous effort, hoping their cry would be chosen by the tribe.
Conundrum Thursday presented a real-world dilemma about ownership and possession of goods. In the afternoon, Sparks participated in a team-building game: team juggling. Initially, it seemed easy, but as more balls were added, the challenge increased, teaching valuable lessons about cooperation and focus.
Feedback Friday took a different turn with a launch centered around the Power of Silence. It proved to be more challenging than many expected. Afterward, Sparks shared their thoughts and reflections on what they experienced during the studio's silent time. It was a great exercise in self-awareness.
