Hello parents, learners, families, and friends!I hope you all had a wonderful break—it felt long, didn’t it? We’re excited to jump right into everything we explored this week. Let’s start with Writer’s Workshop.
Writer’s Workshop
This session, we are diving into theatrical writing. In Writer’s Workshop, we’re doing so many exciting things! On the first day, learners memorized a monologue and performed it for the studio. We were blown away—so many talented learners were able to deliver their monologue without even looking at the script!
On the second day, learners chose a partner and began memorizing a short scene. Those who were ready had the option to perform, though not everyone had time. It was an incredibly fun and energetic start to our theatrical writing journey.
Quest: Cartography
For Quest, we began our Cartography Quest. On the first day, we learned all about maps. Learners explored Google Maps to find:
Their home
Their favorite place
A nearby park
An interesting place in their town
Afterward, they drew their own map and wrote directions from their home to one of the locations. When finished, they played geography games to practice identifying states, countries, and continents.
On the second day, we made our own compasses using a needle, magnet, tin foil, and a cup of water. Then learners worked through a map-reading challenge using only the map—no digital tools allowed! It was tricky for many, but a fun challenge for all.
Talent Show Preparation
This week, we also began planning for our end-of-session school-wide talent show! At the end of Session 2 each year, instead of a traditional exhibition, the entire school comes together to share talents. Learners brainstormed ideas and chose whether they’d like to:
Perform on stage,
Create an art piece for the upstairs gallery,
Or even do both!
Creativity is already flowing.
Halloween Party
On Friday, we wrapped up the week with our Halloween Party! The Halloween Committee organized fantastic activities and games, and many learners came to school in fun and creative costumes. It was the perfect way to end an exciting week.
