Hello Discovery Families,

I hope everyone has been doing great! Here’s a look at our exciting week in the Discovery Studio:

Let’s start with Art! We have been learning about the Seven Elements of Art, and this week we focused on value. Learners created artwork using dark subjects on light backgrounds or light subjects on dark backgrounds to explore contrast and depth. Everyone created such unique and impressive pieces!

In CIV, we learned about the thirteen colonies, including New Jersey. We wrote about what we learned and explored the different jobs people had during that time. We also did a fun activity where each learner took on a colonial job, helping us better understand daily life in the colonies.

In Writers Workshop, we are working on podcasts. Some learners are still writing their scripts, while others have started recording. The podcasts cover a variety of topics—some are debates, while others share ideas and interests learners are passionate about. There’s so much to learn from listening to each other’s perspectives!

This session, we are also participating in Weather Quest. Some groups are creating weather broadcasts, which required learning how to read and create weather maps. Many learners have now advanced to the “Storm Chaser” level, where they are exploring different types of storms. They are learning how tornadoes form and even conducting experiments to simulate them. Learners are also researching storms through reading and videos to deepen their understanding.

Today, we are at Alpine! We’re excited to spend the day with Zach, playing games and participating in fun activities together outdoors.

We hope you enjoyed this newsletter and look forward to seeing you at our Exhibition in Week 6. Have a great day!
