Gardening, Ocean Exploration & Creative Writing Projects (Session 6, Week 2)

Hello Discovery families! Here’s what we explored this week.
We began with gardening, memory books, and our mural project. In gardening, we mixed coffee grounds and dried leaves into the soil to see how they affect plant growth. Many plants are thriving, especially morning glory flowers and different types of lettuce. In parallel, learners continued working on their memory books while others painted the background of our growing mural.
We also had a Hero Visit from Kiera, who shared her experiences visiting Actons around the world. She traveled all the way from Malaysia and showed us photos from different Acton schools she has visited. She also told us about her hamsters, which was a fun highlight for many learners.
In Writer’s Workshop, we continued working on our year reflections. After finishing them, each learner chose one part to record for the end-of-year slideshow. They also selected photos to accompany their recordings and chose their final Writer’s Workshop challenges for the year.
This week we also had our first “Growing Curiosity” sessions of the year with Yahli L., Marcos, and Auggie. The first quest focused on nature. On day one, learners researched oceans and created drawings of ocean scenes and sea animals. On day two, we prepared a “Discovery Salad,” working in teams to wash and cut vegetables—everyone enjoyed it! On day three, we explored the Arctic and created clay polar bears.
It’s hard to believe week 2 is almost over. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
