Hello Discovery parents!

Here’s a look at what we explored this week:

🎨 Art: Mural Project

We kicked off an exciting mural project! Discovery learners brainstormed creative ideas and used Canva to design concepts for a mural that will be created in the makerspace. We also learned about public art and how it can impact a community.

🏛️ Civics: Revolutionary War Figures

In Civics, learners studied important figures from the American Revolutionary War. Each learner researched a historical figure, created a trading card with facts and an image, and then shared their work with the group. It was a fun and interactive way to learn history!

💼 Quest: Jobs & Real-World Skills

During Quest, learners explored different jobs and how to apply for them—including opportunities in their own neighborhoods, like dog walking or shoveling snow. They reviewed a variety of job options, identified roles that fit their strengths, and completed job applications. This Friday, learners will participate in mock interviews, where only one candidate will be selected for each role. Those who are chosen will earn a “Falcon Buck,” adding excitement and real-world experience to the process.

✍️ Writer’s Workshop: Business Fair Preparation

In Writer’s Workshop, learners continued preparing for the Children’s Business Fair. They completed brainstorming activities focused on their skills and talents, then worked on planning their products. This included deciding what to sell, how many items to create, how to sell them, and calculating materials, quantities, and costs.

Located in Closter, NJ, Acton Academy Bergen County offers an immersive, studio-based learning experience.
