Discovery: Session 2, Week 1

And we’re back! New session, new adventures. The week started with learners being introduced to the new quest, Cartography. This week the Falcons got to look at a map of Closter and markup places they have visited in Closter, including where their friends live. Along with learning about maps, they studied the different states in the country. One of the learners could even memorize where all the states are without getting anything wrong. They will keep practicing throughout the session; make sure to ask your child about it :)

On Thursday, The Falcons were also challenged to prepare themselves for a talent show. They have begun to brainstorm and work on ideas they want to perfect by the end of the session. Some learners have started choreographing dances, while others are still trying to figure out how they can incorporate martial arts into the talent show. Regardless they will be working tirelessly to create something unique and worthwhile.

Lastly, the learners were introduced to their Writers Workshop theme: “Traditional Foods Around the World.” Learners researched and wrote about traditional food from different countries they would like to explore. On Tuesday, we were fortunate to have chef Tomer Zilkah from “Patisserie Florentine” to a hero’s visit. He shared his life story about how he went from being a dishwasher to owning three different bakeries and a university professor.
