Hello Discovery parents,
Things are humming along as we speed towards the end of Session 2 in Discovery.
Marine Biology Quest continues to be a favorite amongst the learners. This week squads were challenged to recreate an ocean creature in paper mache. They were able to draw on lots of inspiration from our field trip to Liberty Science Center last week. Learners have also begun sharing their independent deep dive projects with fellow learners and we have all been enjoying learning so much from each other!
In Writer’s Workshop learners began their 5th and final short story. They were challenged to force rank their story in terms of their success in organization, character, setting, plot and word choice and then work to improve the item they rated the lowest. Learners have been having fun sharing their stories with each other and are looking forward to creating their covers and binding their short story collections next week!
In CIV this week we imagined what it would be like to be amongst the folks aboard the Mayflower when they decided to stay in Massachusetts instead of heading for Virginia as planned. Learners explored the Mayflower Compact and how they would feel about creating their own rules and laws as well as how they would have felt about settling on land that was already occupied by other people. We talked about the self governance practiced in Discovery and which parts learners believed were most important to a high functioning studio.
There are many exciting things happening this time of year. We are getting ready for our exhibition and talent show next week, and we hope to see you all there! We also want to wish a Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate and hope everyone is enjoying time with their families as we approach the end of the year.
Kind regards,
Marie Antonelli
