Journey: Session 3, Week 1

Happy New Year! As we come into the new session refreshed from the long break, everyone seems happy to be back!

This session is focused on the American Revolution and the founding of America! This is a topic everyone can learn a lot from and will help foster the Falcons' understanding of history.

For Quest the Falcons are learning about the American Revolution and the first challenges were based on the founders and a timeline of events. The Falcons researched on Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington and created a sketch-bio about one of them. The Falcons used the sketch-bio to create an infographic that could be hung on the wall. All the boards were very creative and detailed. The Falcons continued making a timeline of historical events.

For Genre the Falcons will be both, researching and making their own persuasive letters, and reading a Deep Book based around the American Revolution. Each day of the week the Falcons focused on different aspects of the letters:

  • Monday: persuasive letters made in the past

  • Tuesday: focused on finding a deep book for the session

  • Wednesday: choosing what to write in the first persuasive letter

  • Thursday: wrote their pitches for the Deep Books

For Civ the focus is, of course, founding America. The Falcons had a very interesting discussion about Samuel Slater and the ethics of making machines that children could use.

We are excited to see what everyone learns next week as everyone is just getting settled!
