Journey: Session 4, Week 3

Hello everyone! This week we had some fun and engaging activities that everyone enjoyed, starting with an interactive launch led by Zohar. In this launch, we competed to see who could get the most creative with the provided materials to make the longest line. But this was just the beginning of the week.

In Genre, we started the first rounds of writing, starting with a quick and easy 1000-word draft, followed by a minor critique. Once we understood what we should change, we started sizing down, bringing our word count below 800. We finally started breaking down our word choice with a second critique with this new revised version. This whole process was extremely helpful and functional as we began to shape our stories which I am excited to see come together in the upcoming weeks!

This week, Quest had learners light up their LEDs via their previously created batteries or the ones provided. They then had to make a diagram and presentation to explain their process and understanding of the process. Following their LED ventures, learners started researching how to heat their rockets for the upcoming launch chemically. With the research under their belt, Falcons experimented with different methods to see what would be most effective for their purposes. Just in time too, because the launch had arrived and everyone got to see their new and improved results, which were exciting!

The Civ this week was fun as we learned about the french revolution and did a hands-on project to display our understanding; some learners made statues, others a collage or some other form of creative expression. Everyone was so focused on their projects, but I would also like to highlight this interesting question:

The “Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen” rights are liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression. What’s the most significant difference between life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness listed in America’s Declaration of Independence? Which set better serves a civilization?

Overall this week was productive, and we had many fun activities! I hope everyone rests well so we can take on what next week has in store for us!
