Greetings from the Journey Studio!
Although this was a shorter week due to the snowstorm, our learners continued diving deep into their American Revolution unit through research, writing, role play, and thoughtful debate.
Genre: Essay Writing & Peer Feedback
On Tuesday, learners selected five American Revolution figures they admire. After force-ranking their choices, they selected the historical figure that interested them most and began writing their fourth essay.
Once drafts were completed, learners met in groups of five to provide peer feedback, strengthening both their writing and revision skills. On Friday, essays were submitted to Michal for final review and approval.
Quest: Historical Role Play
Quest challenged learners this week as they prepared and performed acts based on key events from the American Revolution.
Tuesday: Learners practiced their lines in small groups (3–4 students).
Wednesday: Groups performed their assigned acts.
Thursday & Friday: Learners researched the historical figures they portrayed to deepen their understanding.
For example, Ozrik researched Benjamin Franklin, the character he performed, to better understand his role in the Revolution.
Civics: Constitutional Convention Debate
In Civics, learners stepped into the role of delegates at the Constitutional Convention and considered complex political decisions.
One discussion question asked:
Imagine you are a delegate from Delaware, a small state. Do you support: The New Jersey Plan (equal representation for all states)? The Virginia Plan (representation based on population)?
Learners debated which option they would choose and defended their reasoning, practicing historical empathy and critical thinking.
Exhibition Planning
Journey learners also began preparing for the upcoming Exhibition. They decided:
Which student-created games will be featured
Which Quest acts will be performed
We are excited to share that Kalina and Avagial will serve as hosts for this Exhibition!
We look forward to another week of learning, collaboration, and preparation. Thank you for your continued support!
