Dear Sparks’ Tribe Families,

We had a wonderfully musical and creative second week of Session 3! Sparks learners explored biology, music, movement, and imagination, connecting ideas across multiple disciplines. Here’s a look at what made this week so special:

Micro Monday

We kicked off the week with a launch focused on biomes and environments around the world. Learners also watched a short video about Jane Goodall and her journey as a researcher, sparking curiosity and excitement for the afternoon’s Biology Quest. During Quest, Sparks imagined themselves as scientists, designing a brand-new animal, describing its unique characteristics, and choosing the biome it would call home.

On Time Tuesday

Sparks got their bodies moving with body percussion, testing their listening skills and gross motor coordination as they followed rhythms using their hands and feet. In the afternoon’s Music Quest, learners created their own shakers and began writing original songs to accompany their handmade instruments.

Macro Wednesday

Learners explored a thoughtful conundrum involving the discovery of a unique fox in a specific forest, debating who had the right to claim the discovery. In the afternoon Quest, Sparks returned to their original animal designs, adding more detail and putting the finishing touches on their imaginative creations.

Read Aloud Thursday

Our session’s focus areas—reading, music, and biology—came together during a read-aloud of Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo by John Lithgow. Learners shared their favorite animals and discussed which instruments they found most interesting. In the afternoon, Sparks created their own panpipes using straws, carefully measuring each pipe, cutting to size, and assembling their instruments with tape.

Fitness Friday

We wrapped up the week with an energetic Fitness Friday. Sparks watched real-world examples of Olympic races before participating in their own version of a 100-meter dash. Learners demonstrated enthusiasm, effort, and great sportsmanship as they raced and cheered one another on.
