Greetings from the Journey Studio! This is our second newsletter for Session 4. This week, learners continued their work across multiple areas: researching physics concepts in Quest, developing their TED Talks in Genre, and exploring the War of 1812 in Civ.
Genre
This week in Genre, learners focused on researching their chosen TED Talk topics. On Monday, they completed the bulk of their research, began pre-writing on Wednesday, and by Friday started drafting their introductions. Learners are building strong foundations for clear and compelling presentations.
Quest
In Quest, learners explored physics concepts such as levers and pulleys. They applied their understanding by designing and creating their own models, building on prior knowledge of work, mass, and force. This hands-on approach helped deepen their understanding of how these principles function in real-world scenarios.
Civ
In Civ, learners continued researching the War of 1812. One of the key questions they explored was whether Britain was justified in establishing a naval blockade that prevented U.S. ships from trading with France. Learners shared a range of perspectives and supported their opinions with reasoning, engaging in thoughtful and respectful discussion.
Tryout Learner
This week, we welcomed a tryout learner, Sam, who joined the Journey Studio to see if it would be a good fit. He showed openness and confidence as he participated in activities and engaged with the group.
