Civ! -
This week, for Civ, we researched Christopher Columbus and what occurred after he had reached the New World. We learned about how he treated the indigenous people, and how, after one of his ships was damaged, he was forced to leave behind some of his crew on the island of Hispaniola (Haiti). While he was gone, the crew left behind abused the indigenous people, and the indigenous people destroyed the settlement and murdered the crewmembers, leading to battles between the colonists and the native tribes.
Genre! -
This week, for Genre, we had our Invitation Emails greenlit, and once they were approved by Michal, we sent them to our heroes. The emails contained an invitation for an interview with a hero chosen by each learner and their partner.
We also began watching examples of different interviews, offered feedback, and on Friday, we began drafting our interview questions.
Lip Dub! -

It's interesting to read about how the Civ research on Christopher Columbus and the treatment of indigenous people on Hispaniola connected to your week's work. I also liked hearing about the process for the hero interviews, from getting the Invitation Emails greenlit by Michal to drafting questions, which you can explore further on Bizarre Lineage Wiki. The news about the AABC Discovery and Sparks Studios moving on to the Nationals is exciting, and it's a cool opportunity for Journey Studio to serve as judges.

It's interesting how the research into Columbus's treatment of the indigenous people on Hispaniola led directly into the hero interview project for Genre. I'm curious to see what questions the learners drafted after watching those interview examples. For more on this learner-driven approach, check out ScopeQuill.
